Six Local Teachers Honored with RBC Wealth Management's “Tribute to Teachers” Award

MINNEAPOLIS (May 31, 2011) – Six local teachers have been named the winners of the 2010-2011 Tribute to Teachers award, presented by RBC Wealth Management. The annual award program invites students and parents to submit nominations honoring their favorite teacher or principal, explaining how he or she has made a difference in their own or their child’s academic experience.

The winners of the 2010-2011 Tribute to Teachers award are: Concordia Creative Learning Academy Principal Mary Donaldson; Black Hawk Middle School 7th grade language arts teacher Paula Johnson; Columbia Heights High School English teacher Jill Jungers; and the Valley Crossing Community School kindergarten and first grade teaching team of Kari Pidde, Mike Wallus and Janet McDowell.

“Each year, this award reminds us of the number of incredible educators that are shaping the minds of young students in the Twin Cities,” said Martha Baumbach, director of community affairs for RBC Wealth Management. “The 2010-2011 winners stood out for their remarkable positive contributions to the lives of their students, and we are thrilled to honor each of them as our Tribute to Teachers winners.”

The four winners were each awarded $500 in “classroom cash” to put toward educational materials, with each teacher recognized at his or her school as the school year concluded. In addition, the winners will each receive tickets to a 2011-2012 University of Minnesota Gopher men’s hockey game, where they will be recognized on Gopher ice for their commitment to making a difference in the classroom.
