RBC Wealth Management Names James Goldman Volunteer of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. (Nov. 2, 2011) – RBC Wealth Management recently recognized James Goldman, financial advisor at the firm’s Hartford branch, as the recipient of its 2011 Dick McFarland Volunteer of the Year Award. This national award is given by RBC Wealth Management each year to recognize outstanding volunteer commitment and community service.

Jim devotes several hundred hours each year as the Money Coach at Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford (JFS), working closely with individuals who are facing personal financial challenges. Jim, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with more than 20 years of industry experience, provides valuable guidance on personal budgeting, consumer debt, bankruptcy and retirement planning at no charge to JFS clients.

On his Money Coach experience, Jim said, “When I spend a whole day working with people one-on-one to address the financial issues that they're facing, the feeling that I get from giving that kind of help is absolutely incomparable. And to be able to do that week after week reminds me how privileged I am to work at a firm that offers such flexibility and to be on a team that's so supportive of my volunteer work.”

Over the last three years, Jim has directly helped nearly 200 people through individual consultations and has spoken at workshops attended by nearly 1,000 people. In addition to dedicating his time on the weekends, evenings and a full day every Wednesday to his Money Coach role at JFS, Jim has qualified for President’s Council since 2008, representing the top 20 percent of the firm’s financial advisors.

“I am very proud of Jim for both the quality and quantity of volunteer work that he performs throughout the year at JFS,” commented Aaron Scott, Complex Director, Hartford. “Jim is the epitome of volunteerism at its finest, and is a highly regarded representative of RBC Wealth Management in the local community.”

As a part of his award, RBC Wealth Management will make a $1,000 contribution to Goldman’s charity of choice.
